Scholar of the Week Information
Throughout the school year, each child is honored as the Scholar of the Week. During each child's scholar week, we will celebrate their birthday and we will get to know them better as they share something about themselves each day. If your child's birthday occurs during the school year, then they will be Scholar of the Week during their birthday week. Summer birthdays will be celebrated throughout the year, typically at their half-birthday. If we have more than one birthday on the same day and/or the same week, then the scholar weeks will be assigned based on the most recent birthday and then spread out.
Please help your child make the most out of their week by assisting him/her gather their items for each day and helping them practice their daily speaking part.
Fridays before the assigned week
Your child will bring home the "My All-Time Favorites" sheet and an overview sheet that highlights the below daily activities.
Mondays
Students will share the "My All-Time Favorites" sheet with the class by reading it aloud. Classmates will ask questions to learn more about the scholar. This will be hung on the Scholar of the Week board.
Your child will bring home our class stuffed pet, Luna, and a journal. They will take care of and spend time with our class stuffed pet for the next three evenings. Inside of the journal, students will write about the things they did with the class stuffed pet, places they went, and anything else the student would like to write about their time with the class stuffed pet. Illustrations and/or photographs can be added to the journal, or emailed to Mrs. Hause.
Tuesdays
Students will share 3-5 of their favorite photographs of themselves, family, events, and/or places. These will be hung on the Scholar of the Week board. Pictures can be emailed to Mrs. Hause if you do not have hard copies. Classmates will ask questions to learn more about the pictures.
Wednesdays
Students will share 3-5 objects that are special to them. Students will need to be ready to tell the class about the objects and why they are special. Classmates will ask questions to learn more about the objects. These items will be put on display until the end of Friday.
Thursdays
Students will return our class stuffed pet and journal to the classroom. Students will read aloud their journal entry to the class telling us all about the fun things he/she did with our class stuffed pet. Students will also share any illustrations they have drawn or pictures they have glued into the journal.
Fridays
We will celebrate birthdays with a 15-minute activity of the Scholar's choice (ex: dance, Go Noodle movement videos, extra recess time, outdoor game, drawing time, 4 corners, heads up 7 up, etc.)
